Kurt Riegel is a scientist and retired federal senior executive and teaches environmental management at the Johns Hopkins University.

He has worked at the University of California, Leiden University in the Netherlands, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Navy, and Johns Hopkins University..

He has served as a member of the Annapolis Environmental Commission. He is presently a member of the Severn River Commission, is on the board of directors of the West Annapolis Civic Association and the Severn River Association.

He has a BA in physics from Johns Hopkins University, a PhD in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Maryland, and is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.

He is a sailor, loves the Chesapeake Bay and has cruised much of it in addition to circumnavigations of the DelMarVa peninsula and voyages to Nantucket and back. His wife Marieluise is an artist, and children Tatiana, Sam, and Eden are entertainment professionals working in Hollywood.
